StayDays is the simple application that willtell how long your loved one or patient will have to stay in thehospital based on public historical data released by the USgovernment at data.gov. Simply enter the patient's diagnosis, gender, and age group to look up the statistics on how long similarpatients have had to stay in the hospital.StayDays was created at the Health 2.0 Boston Big DataCode-a-thon on May 12th, 2012 by Henry Wei, M.D. and Matt Garnes. It was a runner up prize winner in the contest! This information can help family and friends plan effectivelyfor their loved one's stay in the hospital. Medical professionalscan use this application as a quick reference when advisinghospital patients on their length of stay. StayDays makes it easyutilize public historical data that is otherwise difficult tointeract with. The single data source that fuels the application is the publicuse file of inpatient claims drawn from the 2008 BeneficiarySummary File of Medicare beneficiaries enrolled during the calendaryear 2008. It is available online at: https://explore.data.gov/Health-and-Nutrition/2008-Basic-Stand-Alone-Inpatient-Claims-PUF/peih-fvbs.This means that this application is most accurate for patients inthe United States.StayDays does not store, share, or otherwise do anything at allwith the information that you enter besides using it to compareagainst the government data that has been built into theapplication. This application is an open source project, feel freeto view the source code on Github at: https://github.com/mattgmg1990/StayDays
